Types of Braces

Irregular teeth is a pretty common issue until unless you have taken care of your teeth from a young age. Some people get a naturally perfect smile. Traditional Braces

The traditional braces have advanced through the years to become stronger and lighter in weight with a new structure. They are made of high-grade stainless steel and have metal brackets that are attached to each tooth using a type of cement. The brackets are linked to each other with a thin archwire, which puts pressure on the teeth to cause them to move slowly into the correct position.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces or self-ligating braces have clear, transparent ceramic brackets which are less visible to others. However, the functions of the braces are similar to the traditional ones. Damon Braces

This type of braces is becoming popular among the patients because it requires lesser dentist appointments and provides a gentler treatment. Damon braces are self-ligating and use a slide mechanism instead of elastics which connect to the archwires. It is also a faster treatment, and the teeth can move on their own without needing to be adjusted. It is a less painful treatment and also saves on the money with lesser dental visits.

Clear and Removable Aligners

Invisalign is an alternative to the metal or Damon braces. It has clear plastic aligners that resemble mouth guards which are custom made. They are also removable for eating and cleaning. The aligners need to be kept changing in every two weeks until the teeth are aligned perfectly. Clear aligners are also recommended for normal use after completing the orthodontic treatment. It helps is settling down the teeth in their new positions.

Palatal Expanders

Some people can have overcrowded teeth, which needs to be removed or replaced using palatal expansion. Tooth extraction was the traditional way to deal with extra teeth, but now orthodontists recommend the wearing of a palatal expander for a period. This is a device that fits your palate and applies pressure to the back of your upper molars, which gradually moves your teeth farther apart. This helps in expanding your palate and make it possible for other types of braces to fir correctly with the position of your teeth.

Lingual Braces

Unlike other braces, lingual braces attach to the inside (lingual) side of your teeth. It will not be exposed to others, but at the same time, it also makes the process slower than other braces. Lingual braces will look and function like a fixed brace, using brackets and wires to gradually move your teeth. The brackets are custom made to fit the back of your teeth, which can take time for your tongue to adapt its feel.
